What is a Mac Address?

Media Access Control (MAC address) is a unique identifier assigned to a network interface controller (NIC) for use as a network address in communications within a network segment.

 

Within every NIC(Network Interface Card), burned onto some type of ROM chip, is special firmware containing a unique identifier with a 48-bit value called the media access control address, or MAC address.

 
 Steps To Find Mac Address

Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows 11

You can readily find your MAC address on a modern computer from the command line.

1. In Windows 7, click Start button, enter cmd in the Start Search text box, and press the ENTER key to get to a command prompt.

2. In Windows 8, type cmd at the Start screen and press ENTER when the Command Prompt option appears on the right.

3.  At the cmd prompt, you type the command ipconfig /all and press the ENTER key.

OR

1.     Go to start menu, search for cmd and hit Enter

2.   In Command Prompt screen, type: getmac /v

3.   This will list all your adapters. The Physical Address is the MAC address

 

Android Phone

1.     Go to Settings.

2.   Select About Phone.

3.   Select All Specs

4.   Select Status (depending on your model of phone).

5.    Scroll down to Wi-Fi MAC address.

 

Linux (Using command line)

    1.    Open the terminal

    2.  Type ifconfig, and look at the "HWaddr"
