National Hospital Insurance Fund – Afya Yetu Bima Yetu
National Hospital
Insurance Fund is a State Parastatal that was established in 1966 as a
department under the Ministry of Health. The original Act of Parliament that
set up this Fund in 1966 has over the years been reviewed to accommodate the
changing healthcare needs of the Kenyan population, employment, and
restructuring in the health sector.
Currently, an NHIF Act
No 9 of 1998 governs the Fund. The transformation of NHIF from a department of
the Ministry of Health to a State of Corporation was aimed at improving
effectiveness and efficiency. The Fund’s core mandate is to provide medical
insurance cover to all its members and their declared dependents (spouse and
children).
The NHIF membership
is open to all Kenyans who have attained the age of 18 years. NHIF has 95 fully
autonomous branches, satellite offices, and a presence in the 47 Huduma Centers
across the country. Each of these branches and satellite offices offers
comprehensive customer service.

How to Self Register
- Click
Self Employed on the Menu
- Enter
your National ID/Passport/Alien ID
- If
the Provided ID iS Valid, the System will allow you to continue.
- Fill
in all form fields.
- Attach
a Scanned Copy of Your ID/ Passport /Alien Id.
- Attach
Passport Photo.
- If
married, attach Your Marriage Certificate.
- Click
Save. If you filled in all fields, the application will be submitted
- The
system will notify you of the Application Status
- The
system will also send a notification SMS to the Contributor's Mobile
Number
How to Register a Spouse
- Click
Spouse Registration on the Menu
- Enter
your National ID (Contributor ID)
- Enter
Your Spouse's National ID.
- Fill
in all form fields.
- Attach
a Scanned Copy of Your Spouse's Passport Photo.
- If
married, attach Your Marriage Certificate.
- Click
Save. If you filled in all fields, the form will be submitted.
- The
system will notify you of the Submission Status
- The
system will also send a notification SMS to the Contributor's Mobile
Number
How to Register a Dependant
- Click
Dependant Registration on the Menu
- Enter
your National ID (Contributor ID)
- Fill
in all form fields.
- Attach
a Scanned Copy of Your Dependant's Passport Photo.
- Attach
a Scanned Copy of Your Dependant's Birth Certificate.
- Click
Save. If you filled in all fields, the form will be submitted.
- The
system will notify you of the Submission Status
- The
system will also send a notification SMS to the Contributor's Mobile

How To Pay via MPESA
To
pay via your mobile phone (enabled with Mpesa service) follow these easy steps:
- Select
the Pay Bill option
- Enter
Busines no. Type in 200222
- Enter the contributor's National Identity Number as the account number
- Enter
the amount you wish to contribute
- Enter
your Mpesa Pin.
- Confirm
all details are correct then press OK.
- You
will receive a confirmation SMS from Mpesa immediately.
